Panel: Pan-European Cooperation

European Press Prize 2017

Now that information is omnipresent and can be accessed within the minute, quality journalism has become increasingly difficult to make. To counter the effects of a transforming and pressured market, the European Press Prize was founded in 2012.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the European Press Prize, Foundation Veronica and De Balie will host a panel discussion on Pan-European cooperation. The Panama Papers and stories published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists teach us that certain subjects need an international approach to get the full, international picture. For this afternoon we invite international publishers, freelance journalists and media owners to join a discussion on how to set up a sustainable Pan-European platform on all levels of the journalistic industry.

Panellists include, Brigitte Alfter - founding director of the European Fund for Investigative Journalism and author of the first handbook on cross-border journalism -, Vanessa Wormer - a data journalist from the Süddeutsche Zeitung and member of the Panama Papers investigation team-, Mar Cabra - head of the Data & Research Unit of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists who has worked on Swiss Leaks, Lux Leaks and the Panama Papers - and Teun Gautier, publisher and co-founder of De Coöperatie.

Moderator: Jeroen Smit
